Darija fruits and vegetables: words for the market
At the Moroccan market (souq), you hear fruit and vegetable names constantly. The best known ones, with English translation.
How do you name fruits and vegetables in Darija?
A tomato is Matisha, a watermelon is Dela7 and grapes are 3nab. Numbers like the 3 in 3nab aren't typos: they're signs for Arabic sounds the Latin alphabet doesn't have. Some words also vary by region, like carrot: Khizou, but also Je3da or Zroudia.
